The University of Texas Medical Branch plans to advance postdoctoral programs of study as a strategic goal that will recruit more high quality postdoctoral fellows. To that end, the Graduate School, through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is developing coursework and implementing postdoctoral fellow certificate programs that provide learning not available in their mentors’ laboratories. The GSBS also provides career development activities (seminars, workshops and special events) and helps sponsor them for postdoctoral fellows.
Via its support of and involvement with the Organization of Postdoctoral Scientists and the Committee for Career Development, the Graduate School invites fellows to express their concerns, needs and wishes for career development outside the labs where they spend most of their time.
Through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, initiated in 2009, the GSBS collaborates with departments, centers and offices across campus to offer career advising assistance and to explore career opportunities for postdocs.
