Course Requirements
Three courses are required for the MMS degree: a research course (MMSC 6097), a thesis course
(MMSC 6998), and an ethics course (MEHU 6101).
-
MMSC 6097: Formal research directed toward a Master of Medical Science degree program. Grading will be based upon the student's level of performance as reported by the student's supervisory professor and will be assigned as satisfactory or unsatisfactory (3-9 credits).
-
MMSC 6998:
The prerequisite to this
course is Admission to Candidacy for the master's degree. Admission to
candidacy requires an oral presentation of the results of the initial phase
of the thesis and satisfactory performance in an associated oral examination
administered by the Program Steering Committee. Thereafter grading will be
based upon the student's level of performance as reported by the supervisory
professor of the student's supervisory committee and will be assigned
as satisfactory or unsatisfactory (9 credits).
These courses are not designed in a classroom setting. The
student will select a laboratory and a supervisory professor that will enable the student to conduct their proposed research. Both courses are offered in terms I (Fall), II (Spring) and III (Summer), annually.
It is mandatory for all students in this program to enroll in the Ethics of Scientific Research course
(MEHU 6101). It is a three day classroom-based course that is offered once a year. This
course is only offered in Term II (Spring), annually. You can not graduate until this course is completed.
Completion of degree requirements: The results of the research must be published in a recognized, peer-reviewed journal.
