Master of Medical Science Program

Applicant Information

Applicants must be enrolled in the UTMB medical school or have the M.D. or equivalent degree. Applicants for the MMS degree must complete the following steps (see below). 

Your application will not be reviewed until all items have been received.

  1. Complete and submit an application form. Application forms and additional general information about the UTMB Graduate School are available directly from the Graduate School Office, or from the MMS Program:

  1. Provide a letter from the chairman of the student's clinical department. The letter should state that the department endorses the application and guarantees relief from routine patient-care duties for a one-year, full-time equivalent. If you are not practicing routine patient-care duties, please provide a letter stating that you are not practicing routine patient-care and that you are relieved of your current duties for a one-year, full-time equivalent. 

  2. Provide the name of the student's supervisory professor and a letter of intention-to-sponsor from the proposed supervisor.

  3. Provide a brief (10 pages plus references) description of the proposed project. The description should be scholarly, as well as clear enough to be understood by clinical and basic science faculty on the MMS Steering Committee who have specialties other than that of the applicant. 

  4. Provide official certified transcript from all colleges, graduate or professional schools attended. International Students or American students who have completed their education at foreign schools: If the transcripts are not in English, a certified English translation must be submitted in addition to official original transcripts. Because of delays in receiving transcripts from foreign schools, it is suggested to request these months prior to the anticipated date of enrollment.
