The Distinguished Alumnus
Award is presented to a graduate who has achieved special
recognition in his or her professional career. We are proud this
year to honor:
Evelyn
Tiffany-Castiglioni received a B.S. degree in biology from the
University of Texas-El Paso, in 1975, and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and cell biology from the
University of Texas Medical Branch Graduate School of Biomedical
Sciences in 1979. She
also conducted postdoctoral research in developmental
neuroimmunology at the University of California-Los Angeles from
1980 through 1982.
Dr. Tiffany-Castiglioni
joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1982 as an
assistant professor. In
1998 she was appointed associate dean for undergraduate
education and in 1999 named head of the department of veterinary
anatomy and public health. She has served as the major professor for 14 Ph.D. and
M.S. students. She
continues to carry out research on the neurotoxicity of
environmental contaminants.
Dr. Tiffany-Castiglioni
has received numerous awards and honors including the Texas
A&M University Former Students Association Distinguished
Faculty Award for Research (1998) and the Carrington Award for
Research, Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. (1993), and Who’s Who in America (2000, 2001). She currently serves on the editorial board of the International
Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, and the editorial
board of Neurotoxicology.

Dr. Tiffany-Castiglioni is on the
Executive Committee of the GSBS Associates, the alumni
association organized to serve the interest and needs of current
and future students of the UTMB Graduate School. In the fall of 2001, she provided an extraordinary
presentation at about “What Mentors Should Expect” at the
GSBS Committee for Career Development mentoring workshop. She exemplifies the qualities of UTMB’s most distinguished
alumni. She is an
outstanding research scientist, dedicated teacher and thoughtful
mentor. She has the
respect of her peers and is valued for her outstanding
leadership abilities. |
